weekly pjm1's 52 in 2015... 8 (Relax) added

Quick off the mark Paul, canny take on the theme, but golf, relaxing? only when you're playing well;)

Nice image though.

Phil

hi Paul, my daughter is a golf widow so I know this lol, having said that it is dark down the centre of the shot and light at the edges which makes my eyes go squiffy

I'm glad you got the opportunity to try out your new lens Paul,
even if it was a bit of a shoe horn :D

I hope the test drive went ok

Hi Paul, it's nice to have new toys, not sure golf would be in any way relaxing to me but I am sure other people like it,
you have achieved the dirt jumping out, but as you point out the lighting is not quite there, very difficult to achieve though.

roll on the bugs coming out it's another world of frustration that awaits, the little buggers move, quickly

Hi Paul

Bold ... I like that. Doesn't look staged to me ... interesting lighting, nice shadows but it might have been an idea to block the light from that side of the candle.

Relax ... yes I'd like to see all the writing on focus. Like the inclusion of all the dirt.

Bold - I like the mono version of What chocolate? myself. The candle shot, whilst it fits the theme perfectly, doesn't work as well as the choccy shot for me which I think is great (y)

Relax - For me, Golf spoils a nice walk ;) Good shot that fits the theme. As others have said, the shot would benefit from more light. A good start in the world of macro though :)

Hi Paul ....I haven't hopped in here for a few weeks so I've gone back to Watery ...smashing choice for the theme and a real eye catching shot, super sparkly sunlight and the misty horizon gives it atmosphere.

The picture of your little girl is wonderful, I love it and I agree it's surely a 'must have' for your wall, I especially like the black and white one, her eyes look stunning.

Great shot of your little boy too ...I really like the lighting. Candles and children can be dangerous so composition on that one I would think was quite difficult.

Good to see you trying out your macro lens for Relax, I love macro ...absolutely fascinating, especially in the summer.

Concept is good, composition is good. Understand the requirement for a macro when you get a new macro lens.

Once thought though is that I can't help feeling that a clean ball would have made a better shot. Maybe that's because dirty things make me feel un-relaxed, or maybe it's the dirt that pulls the overall tones down. The lettering is indistinct because of it, and the centre of the frame is just a bit of a dark blob. The crumbly bits that the macro has picked up (mostly under the "C") are great detail though so maybe a partial clean would have worked.

I think I'm talking too much... :muted: :schtum:

Hi Paul,
Really like the shot of your Son (Bold). I don't think its too staged (I've tried to take photographs of my Grandchildren and its easier to take photos of a Eurofighter at Mach2) How did you get him to sit still long enough;).
Like the lighting.... gives a warm impression of candle light although of course the shadows indicate otherwise, however I don't think that detracts from the Photo.... I liken it to his sitting near to fire in the hearth (that's the light coming in form the LH side.... or would that thought blow the stack of the H&S police...) I love that lighting on his face, that's what makes it for me. I think the DOF is quite subtle maybe just enough to give a softer feel to the candle and his hands, so I think that is subjective, perhaps a shot that had everything razor sharp might have left you in a deeper quandary? I think it works as it is. Actually it reminds me a lot of Every Good Boy Deserves Favour Album cover by the Moody Blues (don't say WHO!) but your probably too young to know that one .

Nice Work I like it!

Did I miss a theme? BALLS Oh No! ..... Phew I'm always behind I know but thought I missed one;)
I think I would rather have seen the text pin sharp to be honest but then if it was your intention for it not to be then that's cool, and again its subjective so I'm going to let you off especially as its a new Lens! The "GOLF" looks sharpish but the rest not.... Is that DOF on that lens really that waaafther thin?o_O
Something else throwing me here and I'm not sure what it is I don't know if it is the lighting or not.... I'm not good at commenting on still life TBH, and I still have no idea what my offering is going to be for RELAX so I'm going shut up while I'm ahead :)

Still works with the Theme!

Cheers
Steve

I can see where it would be the perfect bit of relaxation for some people....not me I hasten to add....but some people. :-)
I do think it fits the theme :-)

Bold - Loved the choccy shots, but the candle is definitely a level above! Maybe it's a little bit staged looking, but who cares - it's stunning!

Relax - not being a golfer, I had no idea what this was until I read the explanation and even now, I fail to see how anyone can possibly think that golf is relaxing (who was it that said that golf is a good walk spoilt?) :coat: That aside, I think you've made a really good effort at a difficult shot. The detail in the dirty grittty bits is superb and the highlights one either side are just right, it's just a pity you had to lose some of the light in the centre to get the sides right, but you can't have everything.(y)

Hi Paul, Bold really works well and it's easy to grasp what's bold about the image and the subject looks genuinely interested to learn about the heat generated from the candle! Just dont get too close! :)

Hi hope you are well sorry not popped in for a while been a tad busy, with looking for work and getting a few things done round the home.

Bold - I love both the images you posted, your main entry does work really well.

Relax - I don't grasp the concept of golf, but I guess some people find it a way to relax. Good image but the writing could be a bit sharper which is my only niggle

Thanks everyone for the comments and sorry for not being around over the last few weeks... work is all-consuming right now so simply haven't had a chance to log in to TP :(

Hopefully over the next month or so things might calm down a bit and I'm still very much "IN" this TP52, but will be having a few more weeks out, I'm afraid. Hope everyone else is hanging on in there... see you all soon!

I knew you'd be back .... at some stage. (y)

I have had a major outage Paul and a Mega catch up ..... Your turn now mate!

Well, no mega catch up for me I'm afraid but I am back briefly!

Sorry, I had a mental year with work last year and then a house move. Eldest kid off to school too, so lots of change.

But all's well and wanted to drop in to say hi to everyone. I'm doing lots more walking/scrambling/climbing so apart from pics of the kids, there have been a few mountain-related ones of late.

Haven't had enough time to spend with the film camera or in the dark room, but one step at a time!

Hope everyone's well :)

Well Hi Paul!!
Hows things? I had a disaster at the end of the year... tried to amputate the top of my finger with a circular saw 8¬(
Pretty much healed now but it Mucked up the end of my 2015 TP52.... I actually am going to complete the 2015 one but I guess its pretty much dead and buried now though but I have the shots and I just hate loose ends...
Hope your well anyhow mate!
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve - love that avatar still!

Ouch on the saw front... am doing a fair bit of DIY and woodwork at the moment so I don't need to be hearing things like that! Hope it's all better now and no permanent damage done...

Right, better set up my TP2016 thread even though I won't be able to populate it each week.

My own Bloody stupid fault:rolleyes:, nice fine line scars works but no feeling from first knuckle up (no sense no feeling:)). See if I had been out taking photos it would have happened!

Sorry, we're fully booked. :p
I Love David(y) I'm probably sort of glad to hear that Dave cos still deciding whether I should torture myself again or should I say inflict myself on the members TP 2016:D
