Week 0 - Odd

Wasn't going to bother with this one but its not everyday you see a monkey "scratching" himself in the middle of the Alnwick Garden. I went to town in Photoshop on this just as an experiment.

Hi I like what you have done with the PP and a good start, well spotted too you cant beat a good scratch

A monkey straight out of a nightmare by the look of it. B/w treatment really work well. Good start!

Hi Dave & a belated welcome to the challenge

Laughed out loud at your opening line:ROFLMAO:....& envious that you live in Alnwick....beautiful place & one to revist on a meet for sure

Love the pp on this image , really works well (y)

Week 1 - Linear

Treehouse
by PitiedMonkey, on Flickr

Another from the Alnwick Garden - this is from the treehouse which has a number of rope walkways around it. Personally I hate walking on them!

I really like the idea and composition. The wooden floor really pops, however the rest of the bridge is a little dark, unsaturated and soft in focus. f/2.8 is quite wide, I'd have considered a smaller aperture, f/5.6 or f/8 maybe wider. Something I've learnt quite recently is that smaller apertures, in scenes (like this) where you're not trying to single out a particular item, really "make the image." alsjazzera's shot this week is an excellent example, he used f/16.

Anyway, that is just something I've learned in the last few days that I think could help this image. The composition is great none the less, it shows you have a good eye, and thats half the battle. :D

Great image Dave (y) I would have been tempted to try one cropped each side to the planks at bottom :)

Nice shot, it look to need a little ccw rotation to level it up, nice texture in the wood and chain.

I like the way the netting leads your eye across the slats.

Great capture.

Good shot. The lines work really well to draw you in to it. Have you tried it in a monochrome conversion? Just thinking that the planks might be a bit less distracting in b/w.

Hi Dave, good leading lines but as someone else stated it could do with a straighten although looking again the planks are straight,
but I think I would still try

Welcome to the 52 Dave :)

Odd - Wow... that sure is an odd monkey :D .. good PP

Line/Linear - Very nice Image... the planks in the foreground are level but the image look on the wonk, Have you got one with the Horizon level and the foreground out ?? I think that would be more pleasing on the eyes ??

& another fab take on the theme , think it may be a smidge on the squiff as others have said but then again it may just be because it's not a fixed bridge ? Still , like the perspective , the muted tones & the DOF

Love the colours in this, but tend to agree there is something a bit wonky going on - but then I always have to crop to straighten and never seem to get it quite right :D

Like this, no real crit from me

Odd - A rather odd scratching monkey  The mono version suits well
Linear/Line - Lots of lines to lead your view through to the background.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I have been lurking on this forum for a while but I am overwhelmed with the helpfulness of everyone. Hopefully in time I will be able to give helpful feedback to you. Cant wait for the next theme!

Hi
Like detail of planks in your 'Line' shot and the sides of the bridge draw you into the pic.

I like pictures of dogs and yours is a good one. My eye keeps getting drawn to the hair over the dogs eye though but he can't help being hairy. :)

What can I say, any image with a dog in it gets my vote
