Hi guys,

I am looking for an editing package that can convert a picture into black and white, but then change specific items back to their original colour? I bought Corel's paint shop pro believing that would do the trick, but unless i'm missing something, it doesn't ....it lets me change an item to a new colour, but not back to it's original.
Can anyone advise? Can it be done on Corel paint shop pro x2?

Thanks a million
Em

I would think Photoshop Elements would do the trick. I'm a Photoshop user so not completely sure of Elements capabilities.

However I would think there are 3 ways too do this.

1/ Mask the colour the convert the remainder to B&W.
2/ Convert to B&W and use the History brush to revert the areas you want back to their original state
3/ Duplicate the background layer, convert this to B&W add a layer mask and paint through.

Alternatively you could download the GIMP, which is a free program and has many of the attributes of Photoshop, and try the techniques I've suggeted above

I can confirm that Photoshop Elements 5 does it for me, check out my Layers and Reflections thread to see the end result.

Paint shop pro should do that fine.
I don't use PSP but make a duplicate layer, turn that to black and white, add a layer mask to that layer and paint back in the bits you want in colour. If it doesn't have layer masks simply erase the parts of the black and white layer you want to see the colour of the layer below through.
