PING Call - phone call from a number (usually premium rate) intended to tempt the recipient into phoning back.
About 7 or 8 times per week I receive calls to my mobile phone from dodgepots that hang up after ringing my phone 4 times then quickly ring again and hang up after 2 rings. I never answer the calls, but using various number checking websites reveals the numbers to be mostly premium rate (070) and from unidentified users.
These "pairs" of calls never come from the same number twice therefore there is no point in puting the numbers in my "blocked senders" list.

Anyone found a way of eliminating this annoyance ?

I've had my supplier change my number in the past for just this reason. Luckily, it was easy for me to do at the time because only friends and family had the number - not so easy if it's a business or long-held number. :(

I had that idea in mind. Beginning to think I need a phone for friends and important and essential contacts like banks and mainstream retailers. A separate phone (that could be left switched off periods) for other odds and sods might help.
One would think that pest callers could be run to ground.

It's a pain but just block each number as it calls.

It's is more annoying and worrying when they call you by name, and recite your address.

Or just get a dual SIM phone? I'm probably going to do that soon, because I have UK and South African cellphone numbers and it's a bit of a pain running two phones.

No point - the same number never calls again.
Must be some sort of an organisation behind this variety of phone abuse.
