Pictures too dark

Having been disappointed with the built in flash on my D80, I bought a SB600 but I'm still finding pictures I took over Xmas are very dark. I'm probably not using it as I should ,Is there an easy way of understanding this flash?:'

Easiest way is by posting an image with the EXIF intact. Then someone on here can work out what's going wrong!

im getting the same sort of problem but mine is not using the flash its during the day you'll have to excuse me as im new to the hole photography scene and learning from scratch i can up load some pics later
