I think you'll find that most of us use RAW and the picture styles dont effect RAW shots.
(Although if you use Digital Photo Professional to do your post processing you are able to change the picture styles in that afterwards)
Picture styles are for jpgs really.

My tip would be to stop using beginner modes and start using the manual modes. Start with Av then try Tv and Manual. Once you start understanding what the settings do to the picture you will not go back to 'picture styles'.
Take the same picture with different apertures (say a single flower with distant garden behind it) and then compare how they come out. Low f number = big aperture = subject sharp background blurred. Large f number = small aperture = everything in focus. Learn how it works and you are in control not the cameras auto modes.
edit: hmm after Janices post I appear to be at the wrong end of the stick! Shows I use RAW only now and never look at jpeg settings!

I dont think he means the auto modes on the top dial RObert... he means the Picture Styles with extra saturation... or sharpeness etc etc. These can be used with any jpg shot... taken in manual, av, tv etc.
A different thing altogether from the auto and semi auto modes that you mention.

Thanks for reply's yes i use Raw too, however i see the settings in the process raw file converter, still set on the setting i have choosen in the picture style.
So what your saying is even though the settings is shown its not making any difference to the picture. I wonder why have it on there then. i put in some extra sharpness in and its showing the amount on the slider as in the camera.

The settings (as you almost certainly know) only affect the JPG image.
I find it handy on occasion to shoot with enhanced sharps and sats, but havnt gone for the BW/Sepia/Purple flavours
I think Petemc uses the BW setting to make sure that he gets the image he wants, but then I dont think he sees anything other than greyscale
