Hello !

I manged to pick up a really nice Minolta 5d which was classed as having a fault.

When taking photos without flash the picture has an all over colour cast (magenta). When taking pics using flash the exposure looks fine.

I have made sure there are no silly settings applied and actually done a factory reset.

Any ideas as the camera is really nice and super condition....it would be a shame to bin it..........

Well that's what I thought but the wb selector does still influence output.....

Hi vanilla
May be the known fault is with the white balance. It mey be still operating but incorrectly.

I'm not 100% sure it has raw. I could not work it out as with flash it is ok which seemed strange. If it was a fault I would have expected it to be on all exposures.

The camera does have RAW according to the spec sheet. I can see how using the flash could mask the problem. If it is an issue with the white balance (either the way it is being measured or set by the camera) it could be masked by using the flash. When you use the flash the camera will default to a preset white balance (assuming you're using auto WB) so it would come out right even if there is a fault in the WB system. Shooting RAW or manually setting the WB seem like possible work rounds.

I will do some more investigations later - dobt worry I won't bin it! In very impressed with the build....it's really lovely to hold and really feels nice to use. Very simple and lovely design. If its knacked I will keep it as a nice paperweight !!

Might not be related but I had a Nikon D2x that produced magenta images. The outcome was a £1350 repair charge to fit a new sensor.

KM 5D definitely has RAW (MRW format).
KM 5D/7D jpegs normally have beautiful colour so a shame if that is the fault.
