Picking up my new lens tomorrow

optical quality glass of that sort of focal length at f2.8 is very very expensive to produce, which is why the Canon 1200mm prime is about £ 100,000 secondhand. Makes the Sigma seem a bit of a bargain doesn't it...

Have you seen the weight of the thing as well. 15.7kg thats nearly 2.5 stone to us oldies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is a monster, even down to having its own rechargable batteries to power the AF, I think my 5d's batteries would last less than ten mins powering that thing ! :)
 
It has a motor to power the zoom, and its so bulky it has its own HUD.
