Yes
I'm looking to buy some lighting equipment, but I haven't got much knowledge about it all so could use your help TPers :)

I basically am looking for a flashgun and perhaps a trigger and receiver set to go with it so i can use it off camera too. (So... will i need a tripod too or will my gorrillapod fit anything?)

WHAT I WANT IT FOR- I have some blank cream walls in my room and i've always wanted to make it my studio haha, so basically i'd have my friends up there for some photos, and just have something decent to light my indoor shots and stuff. And even to balance harsh light outside, just general use really!
OH and its to fit my Sony A100.

BUDGET- I don't have an awful lot of money to spend, i'd say about £120-160 or so. Thats for both the flash and trigger/receiver set.

I saw a JESSOPS FLASHGUN (360AFD) for £99. Linky.
I also saw a sony one too. Its the SONY HVL-F 20 AM. Linky.

What should i be looking for? (Lol you tell me)
TTL good? Swivel..Bounce... what's all this?

If you have any info or suggestions for me I'd really appreciate it :)

Oh and any info or Triggers etc would really help me out too. And if i need a tripods or diffusers or anything for them all, and any suggestions of cheapish ones. I saw a T&R set in practical photography mag for £25.. Anyone have any experience of them?

Cheers,
Melissa.

in your position I would buy the jessops gun, some triggers from FITP in the for sale section and umbrella adapter and a brolly, then get a stand from 7day shop

maybe look at getting a pair of sony hotshoe /pc cord adapters as I don't think sony flashes will fit on the triggers

I have the Jessops 360AFD

I think it would be the best of the two

I have not tried any triggers (yet)

ttl is through the lens metering so the flash puts out the right amount of light - other way is a sensor on flash which is a bit vague

tilt/swivel/bounce/whatever means you can move the head up and side to side so you can bounce the light off a wall or the ceiling and to soften it

oh and feaatures you want are ttl if you want to use it on camera, tilt/swivel and manual control. Next you want the most power and best recycle you can afford.

I get the feeling you could be up and running with everything for just slightly over half of your upper budget figure....drop me a pm :naughty:

just one thing, please do make sure that, as great as off camera flash is, you have one ttl flash for on camera use - such as the jessops one - as strobist-ing is great, but there is so much use that you can get from a flash on camera too :)
