Phottix BP- d300 battery grip

Just purchased a third party battery grip for my D 300. I just intend to use the standard Nikon EN EL 3e batteries. I cant afford the 4a. In the setting up is it ok to have one 3e in the normal battery compartment in the camera with a second one in the grip base at the same time ? If so, do the batteries draw down power together ? Many thanks

Using the Nikon grip you can set the battery priority in the camera. I have mine to use the Battery pack first.

I presume you can do the same with a 3rd party grip.
