Hello all, I am trying to work on my digital vignette options. Up to now I have added a new layer and using the gradient fill set to 9% been slowly adding a black vignetteto areas I want to work with. I will tend to go over the top and then bring the opacity down on the vignette layer until I am happy.

I would like to find some alternative ways that look more natural.

Any advice here?

Mark.

hows about filter>distort - theres a vignette option there, and you can increase/decrease the midpoint....

It's filters/distort/lens correction

OK had a look at that, it looks OK but seems a little limited.

What concerns me is the vignette just looks like an overlay and at times is just not subtle enough.

Make a new layer, draw a black vignette with the brush tool (with a solid brush) then filter>gaussian blur, do it about half way on the slider, then change the layer to soft light

Are you using it directly on the image?

- Create a new layer.

- Fill it with white.

- Use the filters/distort/lens correction option and slide the darken slider to the left and/or adjust the midpoint - I tend to overdo it a bit at this stage.

- Change the layer blending mode to multiply.

- Fiddle with the opacity to strengthen / weaken the effect and/or add a mask and paint in with shades of grey to manipulate the strength of the vignette in specific areas of the image.
