photoshop help delete!

can anyone advise please driving me mad!
got a photoshop book which i'm working my way through scott kelby really good book but i'm stuck

say delete maquee which seems fine but no delete button on my mac looked up on internet says fn button and backspace but does not work! am i doing something stupid!

opened up word and tried fn+backspace worked fine!!
any ideas!

If you have a marquee (marching ants) on your picture or whatever just click in another area of the picture and the marquee will disappear.

as above if you want to get rid of the maquee just click elsewhere outside of the image area and it will disappear or you can press CMD+D

if you are deleting part of an image you have selected just press Backspace

Or select/deselect.

⌘ + D is deselect.

....or do you want to delete the pixels selected with the marquee?

If so, make sure you have a layer with something in it selected before hitting Fn + backspace (if this is the equivalent of Delete on a Windows PC..?)

Oh, and ⌘ + H just hides the 'marching ants', but keeps the marquee selection active.
