Photoshop grid

When I import a photograph into Photoshop the grid appears. I suspect I changed something and I know I can easily remove it, but can I stop it appearing every time I import?

In my version go to view>show>grid for on and off?

Yeah, I can turn it on and off as you state, but it didn't used to add by default when I imported a photograph.
