Hi there , i recently bought a Canon EOS 505D , and I'm just trying to find my way around it  , I have a macbook pro 2.53ghz and was wondering which is the best photo editing software for a complete novice like me :bonk: , i have downloaded the trial version of aperture 3 and i'm currently downloading the trial version of photoshop , as for price , aperture is currently £45 on the App store and Photoshop is on Amazon for £58 , i will mainly be using it for my Holiday pics ( off to the Maldives in May ) , any help will be most appreciated ....:)

They do different things. Aperture is a cataloging/viewing/basic RAW editing program, PSE is a proper image manipulation tool which has the simply amazing content aware editing which makes it worth the price on it's own.

If I could have only one, I'd get PSE and use the software that came with the camera for RAW editing etc then iPhoto for cataloging and browsing (assuming you have it - if not it's dirt cheap in the app store).

Thanks for the reply , yes i have got iphoto , so i'll probably go the PSE route , cheers

Aperture 3 is currently £45.00, For that price its a no brainer. I find myself using Aperture more and more and Photoshop less.

I got myself a copy of Photoshop elements 9 this week, really starting to become a useful tool, but did have to spend an evening on the adobe website watching the video tutorials! Seems an amazingly powerful tool, could spend hours tweaking photos. Before I was muddling through with picasa, but it wasn't nearly capable of producing what I wanted.

Agree with the above - I'd say 90% Aperture 3 and 10% PS.

If as you say the main reason at the moment is for your holiday shots then A3 as it manages yr photos superbly and also provides better then competent editing tools.PSE is definitely excellent and probably takes a little longer to get yr head round but can perform much more subtle/in depth editing.
