Hi All

I've just been given Photoshop Elements 9, and wonder if anyone has any recommendations as to a good manual/book to go with it. I am a complete beginner to Photoshop, so could do with a point of reference. There are a few on Amazon that get pretty good ratings, but any advice would be welcome.

Many thanks

Alex

Elements 9 the missing manual looked pretty good but as I don't have elements I only had a quick look at my mates book, he found it pretty good.
I don't know if Martin Evening does any books for elements but his photoshop books are very good, also Scott Kelbys books are popular but I haven't viewed either for elements.
Not much help I'm afraid.

I read the elements 7 version of "Photoshop Elements 9 Book for Digital Photographers" by Scott Kelby et al, found it very good and easy to read on the throne also!
Recommended.

as above, the photoshop elements 9 book for digital photographers,by scott kelby and matt kloskowski, also quite a few tutorials on u tube, and the tutorials on here.

I have Elements 9 the missing manual by Barbara Brundage and have found it easy to read and understand. When I was using Elements 6 I had The Photoshop Elements 6 Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski which was also pretty good. Of the two I prefer Barbara Brundage's style but both get over the essential points quite well.

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies. You've pretty much, between you, recommended all the books that I've been considering. The only one not mentioned, that I also like the look of, is "Teach Yourself Visually Photoshop Elements 9" by Mike Wooldridge. Anyway, it looks like I can't go wrong with one of the aforementioned.

Cheers
Alex

Yep, only I got the elements 9 one. Excellent book.

There are also tutorials on Adobe's website and it's worth viewing them before forking out for a book. http://tv.adobe.com/show/learn-photoshop-elements-9

Thank you - absolutely right, along with reedwarbler and the Youtube suggestion!

I'm not sure about the Scott Kelby book as on Amazon one of the reviewers points out that it is not very suitable to complete Photoshop beginners, which I am. The Barbara Brundage book is in the lead at the moment, with the Dummies book a close second!

hmmm, Im a bit of a n00b with photoshop and I cant say I agree. The kelby book was very eaasy to understand and follow I thought. Really good section on using the organiser and the book is laid out in a natural "digital workflow" sort of way.

Im not on commission for it or anything though. :)

I have the Scott Kelby book, very detailed it is too. As a beginner, I also got the Teach Yourself Visually by Mike Wooldridge that you mention. It is a bit more basic, but very clear and easy to follow. So, I go between the two books. which I find a lot easier.
