I've setup a landscape 5x7 and created an image and went to print at an instant machine at Tesco's. All was good, but there was more white boarder/edge than the image I had on screen, is there a page setup and margins?

I decided to print it in 4x6 aswell, but it didn't resize and printed the centre of picture missing part of the image, is this always the case?

What happens if i created an image on a 4x6 and then decided to print on a 5x7 size, would this give me a 4x6 picture size on a 5x7 size paper?

this was in photoshop elements 8 saved image as jpg.

i just assumed it would resize.

I have never used a machine like that but when you crop an image it only crops an Aspect Ratio, eg. 8" X 10" so the size of the Crop Box you see will size up and down in size but will keep the same proportions.
Setting the 5 X 7 size down to 4 X 6 you will loose some of it because the width to height ratio is different, not just smaller in proportion. In short a different shape rectangle.
If you print out borderless then the white border you have around your photo in the document should print out as what you see because your border is included as part of the photo, that is how the printer will read it.
If you go to a camera shop and use a machine, say Jessops, then you will have somebody there who will help explain how to use them in detail.

Hope this helps a little.:)

thanks

still a bit confused.

forexample if you take a picture from a camera and then print, you can print whatever size you want 4x6, 5x7 and have the same picture

in elements 8 is there a template which will allow for this?

it's simples...

you camera is a 3:2 ratio so in other words;

3x2
6x4
9x6
12x8 etc

however this is straight out of camera because if you crop in photoshop then it adjusts the ratio of the print.

7x5 is just a bit shorter at the top as a true 3:2 would be 7.5x5

i always crop to the print size in photoshop as then there will be no cropping when you go and print them.
