Photoshop Elements 2025 - question about Camera Raw Panel

In some ways I'm still getting accustomed to PSE2025, having used PSE11 for many years, but as the new version is much the same, with only a few little differences, it's not really a big deal. However, there is one thing that occurs every time in the Camera Raw Basic panel, which puzzles me, so I thought I'd put it out here...

My usual workflow involves opening a raw file in Editor, clicking the 'Basic' tab which reveals the Camera Raw Panel and, as a start point, I click 'Auto' edit and then make my finer adjustments from there. I've noticed that 'Vibrance' invariably jumps to 15 when 'Auto' edit is activated. Not a problem of course, I just reset the slider to zero and adjust at the end if necessary.

My previous version of PSE didn't act this way, so why now? Do the algorithms assume that I'm going to want to add a degree of warmth to all my pictures every time?

'Auto' just means settings that someone else thinks looks nice. I assume whoever wrote the code for 'auto' in PSE 25 must think it looks great.

I guess it's because HDR is a "thing" amongst the kids now.

Thanks for your comments Both. To be fair, sometimes a bit of vibrance setting can improve things a bit, but usually I go for the natural slightly cooler look.. much as I remember the scene at the time I took the picture.

Interesting. My wife has a card making cottage industry and recently upgraded from PSE10 to PSE25 and one of her first comments was that colours appeared more vibrant. Maybe that's happening to her files too - I will have to take a look.
