Photoshop Elements 10 or Aperture 3

Hi All

I am a relatively new convert to digital photography from 35mm

I am looking at getting some editing software and am looking at either Photoshop Elements or Aperture.

I us a Apple Macbook Pro for my computer and am shooting in RAW format on my Nikon D80

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated

Personally I don't think they do the same job. Aperture is essentially a raw file processing tool, whereas PSE is an image editor; you'd use Aperture to correct things like white balance and exposure, then PSE to manipulate the image (clone stuff, add text and effects etc). There's some overlap, but they are different tools really.

However, I use Adobe Lightroom in place of Aperture, and Pixelmator in place of PSE. I like Aperture (I have that too), but find the workflow in LR is much better. I also had a trial of PSE, but couldn't find anything it did, that I'd use, that isn't in Pixelmator, and the latter is a LOT cheaper.

All that said, I'm only a beginner, so maybe soon I'll come across something that I NEED PSE for!

as Mark said they are not comparable. The comparison should be Aperture vs Lightroom. As i started on a pc, i am using Lightroom on my mac and love it. Lightroom 3 is available as a trial, and is £40 if you qualify for student / teacher edition.

As said, they are not really meant for the same job, now I'm opposite to Mark as I hate the LR workflow, but do like and use Aperture.

Aperture and Lightroom are photo management and editing software where as Elements and Photoshop are image manipulation tools.

Aperture, is £55 for the full package, Lightroom is a LOT more if you don't qualify for any discounts. Pixelmator is an EXCELLENT package for a very low price.


I can't remember using PS or Elements on an image, since I got Aperture.
