photoshop cs3 stops hdr processing?

Sorry if this post is in the wrong place but I really do need help here. I bought my copy (legitimately) of photoshop cs3 ages ago and have had no problems with post-processing, panaromics or creating hdrs etc ...until now! for some inexplicable reason cs3 will not now producr hdr merged images . bizarre! everything looks normal until it it about to create the hdr itself. ...after having selected the images to merge, it continues to build in the layers, blends according to content etc etc etc adn just before it finalises this process, the layers disappear and I'm left with just the CS3 screen (grey background etc) also, I've checked my computer memory - no change, still good! can anyone suggest anythign that I can try to diagnose the problem ?

hdr in photoshop is poor anyway, don't even bother using it, get photomatix instead and do it with that
