Am I right in thinking that CS3 is no longer supported, and that I need to update/upgrade to use Raw 5.6 ?

I have LR2, and I can import my 7D raw files through that if necessary, it's just that I'd like the facility to use either program.

Thanks,
Steve

As far as I am aware CS3 does not support camera raw 5.6. So you will either have to upgrade to CS4 or 5 or alternatively use the free DNG convertor here. Doesnt really help you but those are your only choices. Personally, unless you are thinking of upgrading, I would just do all my raw processing in LR and export to CS3 for the final touches.

Once a new version of Photoshop comes out Adobe directs all its efforts to supporting that one. Camera Raw 5.6 is only compatible with CS4, not CS3. I'd do as Steve suggested and simply use Lightroom to handle your 7D files and only export to Photoshop if needed, for the final retouch.

Lightroom also supports DNG conversion so you could use that to convert your CR2 files to DNG, that way you can use both Lightroom and Photoshop. Just a word of caution, the DNG format changes as so if you use Lightroom or the DNG converter make sure it's compatible with the ACR version you have in your version of Photoshop, else you'll get a file incompatibility error.

I think CS3 used DNG versions 4.x but I'm not sure . A quick check on the Adobe site will tell you

ACR 4.6 is the last version that worked with CS3.

I know it wouldn't handle the CR2 files from my G11 so I just used adobe DNG and converted all my canon raws to DNG
