I'm having trouble opening up CR2 RAW files from my Canon 450D in Photoshop CS3 Extended. I get a pop-up message saying -

"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."

Has anyone come across a similar problem and/or found a way round it?
 
You need to update to the latest version of Camera Raw. You can get it from here.
 
Just run update from the help menu and it'll update automatically.

4.5 was released with Lightroom 2.0 last week :)
