Hi

I'm running photoshop cc 2017. For some reason when I right click on Sony raw files it doesn't give me the option to open with photoshop or LR - just Windows photo viewer etc. Why is that? I could have sworn I'd edited .ARW files before.

do they open with a double left click? ( straight into Camera RAW)

No, that's what I was hoping would happen :-(

Right click gives me the following:
open with then

Windows live photo gallery
Windows photo viewer
Choose default program...

Double clicks gives me:
Photo gallery can't open this photo... The file format isn't supported...

Works fine with my Nikon D610 raw files!

May choose default programme and look for Photoshop?

Have you tried locating a raw file in windows file explorer (not photoshop), and right clicking the file, then choosing photoshop as the default program?

If that doesn't work, open Adobe Bridge, navigate to the folder where the ARW files are located, click on a file, then either click on the icon that looks like a shutter on the top row in Bridge, or use the file menu "Open in Camera Raw".

Hope this solves your problem.

The only way I got it to work was to drag and drop to photoshop. Still can't see the raws in explorer - come up with a yellow-orange daisy thing yet NEF files are grand. Manually updated photoshop, Lightroom and ACR just to be sure. Pain but at least I can get them opened! Thanks for trying guys :-)

Might be worth checking with the Adobe site to see if your camera files are supported

I have a similar problem with RAW files in that although I have and use Lightroom CC I cannot get Windows 10 add it to the 'use' programmes options. All I can do is first open LR, or Photoshop and then the file needed. It seems that in Windows 10 it's virtually impossible easily to add other programmes to it's default programme menu if not already there.

I had a similar problem with the last but one update, Nikon .nef files would only open with drag and drop to desktop icon, the following update fixed it.
I think it probably didn't install the first update properly and if I had uninstalled and reinstalled it would probably have fixed it but I just viewed in irfanview until it fixed itself ... try the uninstall/reinstall if it bothers you. :)
