For some reason when I export my photographs from lightroom they appear much darker when viewed in windows explorer or on the web but if I open the same photograph in photoshop or lightroom it is much lighter, just like the original.

So the information in the jpeg is correct it is just the rendering that is different. Can anyone suggest why this may be and how I would go about sorting it so that I have consistency across win explorer, web, PS and lightroom?

Colour management is a right headache!:bang:

IT could be a colour-space problem. The web generally uses sRGB for colour. Photoshop and Lightroom could be using AdobeRGB instead. When you export in Lightroom, there is a drop down for colour space with options for ProPhoto RGB, Adobe RGB and sRGB - make sure you have sRGB selected.

It's to do with the colour space I believe. When you export to JPG, try changing to a different colour space (default is sRGB). I've had the same problem, there's quite a few articles on the web with various suggestions.

I've recently had fun and games with the colour profiles when printing from Lightroom. I'm hoping my friend in the printing trade is going to come by soon with his Huey and get everything working nicely :)

You probably have the color profile of the web images set to Adobe RGB. Save them as sRGB and all will be peachy.

Most web browsers don't colour manage, that's why Adobe RGB doesn't display properly.

They already are sRGB. As a test I also exported to adobe 1998 and pro photo and experienced the same issues when viewing in win explorer.

I have a huey too btw.

I will try and do a comparison screen grab tonight so that you can all see the difference. This one still has me a little confused!

I don't think it's the working profile, it's more likely to be your monitor profile. LR and PS will read the system profile and adjust the display of images accordingly. Pretty much the rest of Windows doesn't. Check what profile is assigned to your monitor and that's it's the right one. Unfortunately only some colour management h/w & s/w will sort things out so the pictures look (almost) identical between colour managed and non-managed apps.
