Are there any good big annual photography/camera shows in the UK?

Preferrably doing a pass at the Brimingham N.E.C

There is a show coming up soon at the NEC where there is a lot of Photography and Imaging equiopment on show.

Focus on Imaging Show 25th - 28th February 2007 - www.focus-on-imaging.co.uk

Hope that helps.....

Thats just the ticket (pun intented :)) Thanks mate :)

Well worth the trip, good place to stock up on mounts and bits and pieces and get your hands on some new equipment etc...

I am looking for a new lens and intend to try them all out here before I make my final decision (Diego has offered some good advice to me on an alternative to a Canon IS which I want to get my hands on).

I suggest that you book on line and collect your ticket, it looked a bit of a "bun fight" last year with people filling n forms etc....

Anybody know, how much is it to get into the show ???

Interesting, Canon not shown on the list of exhibitors?

NON-TRADE VISITORS

Non-trade visitors to FOCUS and hobbyists pay only £6 on arrival for admission, which includes a free show guide. Children under 14 are allowed free admission to FOCUS but must be accompanied by an adult.

You can still pre-register if you are non-trade

Went to that show a few (several!) years ago, local camera club had some forms that we filled in, and just blagged in as trade...

If its the same as last year, Focus and Ipex, its £7 to park ya car too. HTH

This happend last year, but then they were at Photokina, but thats not on this year so don't know why they won't come....

i should av bought a nikon

2nd year in a row that Canon (UK) are not making an appearance :( However they will probably be some Canon Reps around on the Jacobs stand like last year!

Can someone fill me in a little with what can I expect from/to see at this show ... Ive never been to one before.
With no Canon, & at the moment no interest in a 3rd party lens, what else will there be to catch my attention that will be worth the £6 entry fee & £7 parking?

A quick scan down the list of exhibitors suggests that pretty much anything photographic will be there to looksee and handle Glo ... except Canon of course ... ;)

I've not been before but plan to try and get a lookin this year ... work permitting ... :D

Obviously canon kit is so good they don't need to advertise there!

Canon will be at PMA after Focus.
Thats probably the second biggest after Photokina.

Adobe giving free tutorials, loads of stands covering everything to do with photography, don't worry about the fact canon isn't there, every major shop thats sells canon and other photography stuff will be there so you can shop to your hearts content over some nice 'L' glass. What might be useful to you is all the studio lighting retailers etc...basically everything including some cracking deals eg 24-105mm L £600 (should have got mine from there), so start saving. As you run your own business double check the T & C as you might get in for free. HTH

part of their T & C.....http://www.focus-on-imaging.co.uk/tradereg_page.htm

"If you are a professional processor of images."

You take professional quality pictures, process them in a professional way to give you quality results for your business, which relies on professional images.

Think you might qualify Glo???

What are the discounts like at these things? Substantial or no better than you could get by hunting around on the net?

For example, Jaccobs had lenses and bodies discounted by quite a bit last year, they had a grading system too, A-B-C, A being brand new B i think was stuff that had gone back to manufacturers for various reasons but still had 12 month warranty. Some places did no VAT prices. Others did stupid deals to get the customers spending. But a lot of people just haggled and played off different stands with each other.

I think the best thing is to asses what you want might need, find your best price, maybe print the details off. Then you can go armed knowing anything better than that is a bonus.

I got a sans disk extreme iii for £49.00 last year which at the time I couldn't find one for less than £60-70 on tinter web.

Another good thing is you can get better than internet prices but deal with someone face to face, check the purchase over etc...

these exhibitions are damned expensive to show at, we are looking(the company i work for, not us here)at showing at Cedia and others and have been quoted such exhorbitant sums as £250+ per sq mtr for a stand, and the minimum size is 6 square meters....

Thanks for your help Glen, gives me a much clearer picture.
I might be going to Venice mid Feb and had wanted a new lens for that, now I have to decide whether to make do and wait it out.

Matty I know about the expense involved in showing at these places. It took me by surprise when I worked a stand at NEC last year to hear that not only did they have to pay but the metre for the stand but pay also for the electricity to plug the tills into... and several stands ended up with no supply!

Edit: Thanks for link Glen, just filled in a trade form

I've filled in the form and qualify for free entry

Would it be an idea sorting a TPF meet out for the Sunday???

My free entry badge has just arrived at work.
