Hi there,

I could do with some advice on places to shoot in the north west of England. The company I work for does mobile LED screens and we're looking for a nice big wide open space to shoot a big family shoot of them all in a line.

Previously we've used Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire (home of the Richard Hammond head-ploughing championships) - and you can see the kind of shots (and video) we got here: http://www.news.adi.tv/photo-gallery/

Basically, this time we want to do a big family shot - like the one at the top of that page - but with every screen we have. We're talking about 25 screens, so it's going to be a long long day and I want to get it as close to our HQ in Preston as possible...!

We've looked around the area previously but I'm struggling to find out if there's anywhere around we can use. We thought somewhere like either Blackpool Airport or the BAE base at Warton would be ideal, but we've struggled to find the right person to speak to to help us out!

Has anyone used anywhere like this before and have any suggestions?

cheers,

Ollie

Out toward Martin Mere/Burscough way the land is flat as a pancake with massive fields and very few hedges, might be worth a look.

thanks for suggestions, I'll check em out

Ideally could do with somewhere with lots of tarmac (so the trucks don't get stuck!) - probably a 200m stretch of it - and the ability to hire it out exclusively for a full day...

RE: BAE Warton you wont get much joy there
try BAE Woodford

I actually live next door to BAE Warton and look out over the runway. I'm not sure if they would allow access, not sure how strict they are, might be worth calling though... I guess it all depends who you get though to and how persuasive you are :)

Looking at BAE through google maps shows that they do have quite a few runways and possibly some really old ones that may no longer be in use, (they have just had the main runway re-covered) I wonder if they might be a possible location? Worth suggesting if they say no to filming on the main runway.

How about the promenade in Blackpool. Once the season is over (2nd week in Nov - once the lights are switched off) Blackpool prom is like a ghost town! I'm sure someone at the town hall could swing it for you ;)

I'll have a good think about this one!

What about the OMEGA site in Warrington, right next to junction 8 off the M62

RAF Woodvale Near Formby may be amenable
It is a training station mainly for Liverpool and Manchester unis. I believe some civils also fly from there.

I live right by Woodvale. You've little or no chance of getting on there. The Police base their helicopter there, and security is tight after a couple of incidents of our friends from Merseyside getting onto the base at night in an attempt to sabotage the 'copter.

Like I said forget Warton you won't be allowed it's a military secure site.

copied from wikipedia.
The site is not open to the public, although limited areas are made accessible during Open Days (currently on a four yearly cycle) which the company holds for the families and friends of employees and local residents. These Open Days, which are free of charge, typically include demonstrations of activities, tours of simulation facilities and impressive flying displays.

Like I said get in touch with Bae Woodford there's nowt going on there.
