I’ve been thinking of getting some proper photography insurance for a while so I can remove it off my home insurance (currently about £20 extra a month). Stuart McGlennon’s latest video has highlighted the need for it.

I thought I’d ask which insurers are recommended but more importantly the people who’ve made successful claims.

So far I’ve got quotes from photo guard and Eversure.

I’m insured with PolicyBee, who provide policies underwritten by Hiscox. I’ve not made a claim with them, but they seem to be cost competitive and very efficient.

I've had policies with PhotoGuard previously, and made a successful claim for accidental damage when I dropped my XPro1 some time ago. All seemed seamless.

Did you look at our resource thread on this topic: Photography insurance

I agree though that first hand experience of claims is a good deciding factor

I am with Eversure. Not made a claim so cannot confirm that side of things but have been with them for 3-4 years

Have you tried other house insurance policies? I moved the one that is far more accommodating on photography equipment. I dropped my separate photography insurance as a result and saved £100s.(I am not a pro)

Thanks for all the replies. I’ve had a look at getting a quote from policy bee but it seems they are professional only (unless I’ve misread something). Eversure phoned me to follow up on their quote yesterday and will phone me back later in the week to go through any questions I have.

I’ve thought of that but I would like to split it away from the home insurance just in case of any claims.

Glover & Howe are very good, easy to deal with as it’s an old school broker, phone gets answered and emails responded to, no call centre nonsense.

I've always self-insured for kit (apart from kids' musical instruments for trips/theft) and presume this question is about kit as opposed to PL/PI insurance for professional cover?

That’s a possibility but at the value of kit I’m looking at it going by the quotes I’ve received so far it would take 50+ years of premiums to break even if it was all stolen whilst I’m away from home (not happened yet but theres always the chance it could).
