I'm contemplating heading up to Glencoe for a day in the next few weeks, I'm planning to check the forecast a couple of days in advance and if I can get a clear day at a time that suits, head up there for sunrise.

I'm looking to take in the area from Rannoch Moor up to Fort William, catching sunrise and sunset before heading home.

Is anyone familiar with the area, I'm looking for tips on where exactly to go to catch the best sunrise and sunset shots and any tips would be greatfully recieved!

Dave

Im not too sure where to get the best sunrise but there are a few small carparks over the pass into Glen Coe with some brilliant views. Probably best getting there sometime before to check out the various view points.
Oh and good luck

Give Les McLean a shout, I seem to remember a fabulous dawn shot he took of a mountain in Glencoe. I had it as a desktop background for months. I am sure he gave a description on how to get to the spot and it was'nt far from the main road.
Hope he does'nt mind me posting this.

I went up there about 12 years ago and what a beautiful part of the world it is,i can,t give advice as to where exactly to get shots, but if you go sunrise or sunset i,m sure you can,t go wrong, everywhere in that part of scotland is breathtaking, i,ve planned a trip up to lochness myself in june and can,t wait, i hope you enjoy

Thanks for the tips people, I'll hopefully have some good images to post soon!

Also hoping to head up there in the next few weeks. Went upto Lochness at the end of nov last year and was truely amazing! Worth the 600 odd mile roadtrip haha.

I went last January but it was all snowy and cloudy. Lovely place though. The caravan park on the lake shore is a fab place to take pics. I saw a black and white version almost identical to mine in a mag this month!
If the weather is not so good, don't forget black and white.
Have fun!

Ali:)

I'll dig out a map with locations and post it for you

Loch Ba which is just south of the actual glen, on Rannoch moor, is a good sunset point as there are some lochans which are good for reflections there, if you can't see it on the map, I'll be more specific, there aren't many parking spots, though, so be careful as it's a straight bit of road and stuff travels quickly.
In summer, it's also good looking the other way towards the east, but the sun will be a lot lower just now and I'm not sure where it will rise.

There's a lot of snow on the hills just now.

Here's a few locations, with maps/info/directions, that 'fabulous dawn shot' that frank so kindly mentioned, is the first location in the file.

Good luck, it's a wonderful place, and I've only scratched the surface for locations :)

Thanks very much for all the advice.

I'm only about 3 hours away from Glencoe so I'm in the fortunate position of being able to wait to the last minute to see if I'm going, just need to sort out a days holiday from work!

Good points, Les, the one I mentioned is no 4.
