I did the Open University Digital Photography Course last year and I'd like to study something more advanced. My problem? Well, I'd like to do and HND or degree but I can't find anywhere that does a distance learning option. The courses that I can find that are online or distance learning don't really lead to a qualification.

I've been on a studio seminar and I might sign up for a wedding one later in the year so I'm still keen to learn.

Can anyone suggest a course that leads to some kind of recognisable qualification that I can fit around work?

Open College of the Arts. Can lead to a BA degree.
Not cheap though, around £600 per module.

Lancaster University do some short courses leading to a certificate in photography.

Ali, what was the OU course like? I considered doing it but didn't in the end. I might give it another look

T189. The prospectus for it is on the Open Uni website.

I found the basics a bit boring really but then I had learned a lot from books over the years on 35mm and telephoto is still telephoto now we are all digital. Where I did find it useful was the tutorials on photoshop. It came with Elements 5 and by the time I had finished the course I was scooting about with levels like a good 'un.

I also learned a lot about what goes into a good pic and how to critique my own and other peoples work which is an enormous help.

I'd say it was well worth it, particularly if you buy a student edition of PS3 while on the course for under 1/3 of the price. Paid for itself really!

AliB, How much was the OU course?

I did the same course in Sept last year, it cost about £145 if i remember correctly? Like has already been said, you get Photoshop Elements free with it and a dvd of tutorials:)
