I'm looking into further educating myself when it comes to photography.

My local college advertises an NCFE LEVEL 1 certificate in photography.

It's an evening class 3 hours every Thursday and promises a nationally recognised qualification.

What I want to know is at £240 plus a 30 mile round trip weekly, is this the best way to go? Or am I better off on another course/method of learning?

Thanks in advance

this may well be a worthy course- but how do you learn best???

i personally learn best from experimentation and watching clips on you tube and the like on the internet.... the days of me in a classroom with the ability to comprehend whats going on are well gone.....

yes i wont have a certificate for my troubles, but i had a giggle and got plenty of experience (good and bad) which will help me more in the future etc

i also downloaded apps on my ipad so learned alot from reading and using these too....

That's the reason I asked the question in the first place - I think I'm a sort of learning by doing and being shown sort of person. I assume the course will have an element of that but I don't want to spend £240 if there's a better way for me to learn that info.

I have found the micro course on www.karltaylorphotography.co.uk very useful but obviously as he's tryin to sell his course DVD it's somewhat limited. Perhaps my best route would be to purchase the DVD and carry on. They seem to have good reviews at least (by the way no affiliation)

im considering purchasing the set of kt dvds.... just gotta justify the cost of them... it was his videos on you tube and the free ones you get sent each day if you sign up that helped me initially... the other dvd i found really helpful was the lue crane dvd for my my 1000d (my first dslr) which was really helpful too- if they did one for my 650d (they dont as yet) i wouldnt hesitate to invest in it as they show you on the actual camera itself how to facilitate what the camera can actually do etc visually...

They have a deal on at the moment a 3 for 2 so a £90 course is £60 which is cheap in relation to the £240 course. Anyone one here used them that you know of. Of they are deemed as worth it il go for it

this is the one i was considering purchasing...

i emailed them to clarify the overall cost, as it mentions vat and fees arent included, so i was keen to find out what the 'fees' would be... i got a vague email saying 'fees' would be added but they failed to address my question of how much the so called 'fees' would in fact be.....

I added that to a cart and entered false info to get to the end page. It's comes to a total of £107.94.

It doesn't say anything about further fees and that's the total payment amount by the looks of it. I'm tempted I must say - I just want someone who's used them to say "it's great go for it" sort of thing

Try

Lynda.com..it's excellent and has lots of photography courses

After watching a few of Karl's videos on Youtube, I have ordered his DVD set. Hopefully it will give me enough inspiration and tips!
