Photographs in the London Underground

Heading to London soon to visit friends and I was telling another friend I have a few ideas I want to try out in the London tube stations. He told me you're not allowed to take photos down there for security reasons.

Can anyone clear this up for me?

He is wrong. There are some conditions though & getting a permit first will save a load of grief http://www.tfl.gov.uk/termsandconditions/14696.aspx
