I'm photographing runners at a local park run and would like to use a fill in flash to better light the runners. I have a Nikon D7000 with an SB-910 flash, I have
a reasonable understanding of the technical aspects of the camera but am a complete newbie/numpty when it comes to flash (and composition!).

I have the flash set to TTL but the problem seems to be that when I press the shutter button there is a significant delay, probably only a
second or so but seems a long time, before the picture is taken. I assume the delay is due to the flash pre-flashing in order to get the
light settings correct unfortunately because I'm trying to shoot a relatively fast moving subject I'm finding it difficult to get the composition correct.

I was wondering if I set the flash to manual mode would it flash immediately I pressed the shutter button with no delays. All I would
have to do is set the flash output power level beforehand and then take the picture.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

think this maybe down to red eye reduction being turned on. my 910 flashes instantly but im sure i had the same problem when i first got mine

Thanks Suggs, I hadn't thought of that. I'll try turning it off and see if that fixes the problem.

Many Thanks.
