I'm not really a landscape photographer, so don't really know alot about it beyond the basics. However, i was out walking with my husband a few nights ago at dusk. There was alot of low mist around, and it seemed to be rolling aff the water along the canal and dyke where we were walking. It was a tad spooky, and very atmospheric, but i couldn't seem to capture that mood in camera:thinking:

Any tips for if i find myself under similar conditions in the future?

Shoot from a low stance, bracket your exposure, take time to compose your shot.
Mist can throw off your focus, try manual focus.

Just looked out some shots, though I'm sure there are better examples from others...
Maybe someone else could post some?
Anyway, all shots were taken in colour. A couple have been cropped as I had a slight problem with a lens hood (I didn't fit it properly!)

Almost the same shot at 10.46am
Nikon D200
If you get a misty day water tends to be still and reflections can be quite interesting. Lighting tends to be flat so maybe use manual focus and hyperfocal distance to focus correctly.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your replies! Some fantastic shots there. I'm hoping for some more mist now, so i can have a better go at it

I do like Richards' and Damians' first pics.
I've never had a camera around when I've seen something similar, unfortunately, or else I've been driving.

Are these 2 taken at Harlaw Reservoir?

Thanks, Ken. That was a 2 minute walk from home at around 7am I think...I put my stuff away, turned round and saw a pair of foxes playing in the mist in the next field. By the time I'd buggered around changing lenses, they'd gone :(

A good starting point is to add one stop of exposure as the mist will fool the meter into thinking there is more light than there actually is.

Steve.

Keith, yep!
Just about a mile away from my house, up the Kirk Gate.

Was up there on Tuesday, weather was fantastic.
Great place to go for a wonder when the weathers on your side.
Only 20 minutes drive away for me.
