I've seen this place mentioned and featured in some youtube videos.
I have no interest in spending limited time in exhibitions but might like to pop in to have a coffee and check the bookshop.
I see there is an admission fee, does that still apply if just visiting for a coffee or the bookshop, or is it a package you just have to pay for regardless - i.e. expensive coffee?

I’ve heard great things about the current exhibition- so don’t rule out popping up
May pop up to London on Monday but as it’ll only be for the day I will probably pass on the exhibition.

I had not heard of this before but may well pop in next time I am close. I see £10 for most but £7 for oldies like me (60+).

Hmm maybe not Monday, allegedly one of the busiest days over Xmas.

If it’s a print exhibition it’s usually free (hoping you buy a print).
You pay for coffee but it’s good quality.

Thanks, yes I expect to pay for coffee, just wondered if I had to pay the admission fee to get into the cafe - the website is unclear.
Happy to know that I can get to the cafe & bookshop without an admission fee. :)

Always visit when in town for a coffee and a look in the shop. I've been to a couple of exhibitions over the years if they interested me. I remember the 'older' one just off Charring Cross Road from when I worked in Holborn.

First went there when they were in Great Newport St. Sort of between china town and Covent Garden, I think it used to be spread over two separate buildings

Always my go-to when I go to London and my first stop on the walk down from Euston, so much so that I became a member last year. Love the feel of the place, quality coffee shop and shop even before you get to the galleries. Current exhibition by Letizia Battaglia is excellent even if very raw and brutal at times. Loved Ragnar Axelsson too.

its also free on Fridays after 5pm (expect it to be busy) and booking online other days takes a few £ off.

I went before Christmas. There were some fairly interesting and dramatic street photos in an exhibition on the top floor by an Italian photographer who took photos of mafia violence in the 70s in sicily.

The other floors weren't as great in my opinion, they made the best job of displaying it e.g. said the photographer "likes to use out-of-focus subjects and overexposure as artistic effects". Right..., ok - it could have been that, but it's a good job they put that notice up, cos if I was cynical I could have been fooled into thinking they just didn't know how to work the camera that well.;)

I think they possibly change the exhibitions around though occasionally.

I like the place. I used to work nearby and would drop in every few weeks in my lunch hour. The ever changing exhibitions were always interesting, even if I sometimes couldn’t figure out WTF the photographer was doing.

I’d usually pay for the “higher end” exhibitions which were often quite “weird” but as with anything like that it’s up to me to get what I can from them. There was often something very thought provoking or intriguing, and as I grew as a photographer I probably had a lot of subconscious influences from there. I think you can always learn from anything you see or experience. You don’t have to like everything, as often it’s the odd stuff that lingers in the brain more than the good stuff.

There was an absolutely brilliant exhibition of Daydo Morayama's work there in 2024.
