“Confusing and farcical” restrictions on taking photos of Kingston schoolchildren have been lampooned by a prize-winning pair of students.

Kingston University’s Samantha Harvey and Anna Brooks won one of 13 first prize at the D&AD Student Awards, for their unusual twist on the traditional class photograph.

The two photography students said: “The ethical issues and paranoia surrounding the laws of photographing children in today’s society are confusing and somewhat farcical. But at what point will the photography of children be completely forbidden?”

Ms Harvey said: “In 2009 we’d visited a school in Kingston wanting to take photographs of children using some stamps we’d designed.

“The head told us we could only photograph one child and only from the back of his head. The idea just sprang from that.”

The pictures were taken at two Essex primary schools, including the Mayflower in Harwich, whose headmaster Steve Springett said: “The Ofsted arrangements on child protection have changed so it’s been a really big issue in the past 12 months.

“We had to brief the pupils beforehand. They were pretty confused; they thought it was the end-of-year photo come early.”

Lol - better than I thought, I was expecting some empty benches in the school hall.

You would have to be a bit thick to even suggest that surely... from the back of his head?

I may try this at this wedding on Friday as a fun shot, get the normal shot then get everyone to turn round.

Think of the time saving aspect too. No closed eyes to worry about, face pulling, everyone looking the same way.:lol::lol:

the point is over there dude ------------------------>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I think you missed it completely.

I'll bet you some of the parents still complained...

tbh this is a far cry from the usual standard of d&ad winners imho
