Photodeals Collapsible Background users - a question of support...

I have just received one of the Large collapsible backgrounds with train from photodeals.

How does everyone else support the background?

I find that when using the loop to attach to the top of a lightstand the background does not sit flat, but has a definite curve to it - almost like the background is too heavy for the metal frame - making it droop.

If the only method is to rest against a wall or to use two lightstands then I may as well have bought a proper background support and paper roll!

Don't rest it against a wall, it WILL come down and if you have kids on the train, that's not good.

I bought a Lencarta stand, £80 and does the job brilliantly.
 
That is what I feared, dont want it to fall on someone!

Has anyone else experianced the problem with the background not being 'rigid' enough? when I fold out my reflectors they are very rigid, the background just seems floppy - like it needs extra support in some way. Am I not using it right?

Yep same here although mine was an interfit stand.

I use mine mainly against a wall. Is an issue if wooden floor, but fine on carpet if you have a slight angle. When I use my stand (think its an Interfit one) it just seems a bit unstable to me.

Not with the background stand, attach at both sides rock steady :thumbs:

Mind you does cut down a bit on the portability :D

Thanks for the input everyone.

I think that on conclusion, the background is not as potable as I hoped (i.e can be supported by a single stand in the centre) and needs to be supported by a pair of stands with a cross bar.

I will have to try leaning it against a wall with carpet in a larger house as Cambsno mentions; I will have to stick to improvising in smaller houses!

Space is an issue for me. You need some clear wall space and for 75% of houses I find its just not suitable - unfortunately.
 
Had my first shoot using this today. There was a good wall space to lean the background as cambsno suggested and it seemed to work well. I think the secret is clearly SPACE is needed!
