Can I ask, has anyone on TP got a clue as to how the photo rankings work in the Photocrowd "contests"?

I've tried reading their FAQs and among other things it mentions the ratings on the contests are done using various Algorhythms. In a couple of recent contests I've looked at, the winner is not always the photo with the largest number of *, **, or *** stars. I just wondered if anyone on here knew how the "ranking" system worked.

Thanks for that Mark. At that rate, I've no chance of winning anything on there, I don't even have a brown envelope let alone any used tenners.

What makes the Photocrowd contests look even more stupid, is a certain picture showing African Elephants in Zimbabwe in the middle of summer which is ranked very highly in a Nikon Only contest where the theme is Landscapes in Winter and the photo wasn't even taken with a Nikon.

Obviously assessed by a Camera Club judge. As we are all aware it's only animals and landscapes that appeal to judges.
