Well done MRS E... I think that your new shot is possibly better than mine... so it's a draw then as you never even had a week 1 shot and it's too late now!

M

Those shoes really work well both for the theme and in a B&W image. Well done and welcome aboard!

Now, I know these might be awful....but it was simply for the fun of it....Here is a not good and maybe okay picture for Style....I think my husband will be much better this week!!

Told you it was awful.....and now for number two....

I like the first image for style it made me giggle.

Like it, the curves on the shoes really drew me in.

B&W works a treat.

I'd like to see the photograph without the pictures in the background...

Cheers.

I really like the picture of the shoes. Nicely positioned and perfect for black and white. I do find the background distracting though even with the shallow depth of field.

Ha - Mr & Mrs in competition a? <laughing>

LOVE the shoes - brill.

Really like the hanging clothes - good interpretation too

the 3rd pic was a little colour loud for me - maybe a bit too big or too close to the front - can't describe what I mean (mind you, it's 1.30am so :cuckoo: at this time.

Look forward to seeing your future shots, Laura :)

I quite like the invisible woman shot. I think it's the Frankenstein arms. Are you going to try to get your shoes in every photo?
Now that would be a challenge.

Thank you all for lovely comments. I will try the shoe picture again with a clear background. The style picture is rubbish I know... I have a couple of ideas in my head though for better ones... Watch this space!!

Re: New

A square crop around the box with just one shoe may have been a more effective shot. It is a strong image that is 'confused' by the clutter in the top half. Great mono conversion.

 Might there be some photo52 tensions brewing in the Elliot household before we get to week 52? ;)

Love the idea for "new" (and love those shoes too )
IMO the arrangement of the 2 shoes is very effective and the use of DoF to throw the second one oof also works very well.
 for the choice of B&W too. It really brings out the pattern and the curves of the shoes.
In terms of improvement, I would have preferred a plainer background - or maybe just more separation between the subject and the b/g to throw it further oof. I think you could also have done with some more light across the bow on the foreground shoe.

Style : The first one really made me smile, but in terms of artistic and technical merit the second has to be the winner. You've managed to get some really nice depth into this and the red, black and white are a striking colour combination.
Just be careful with the light again - there are a couple of blown highlights on the bow of the bag.

 Looking forward to seeing how the shoes fit into week 4's theme - whatever it turns out to be!

REally like the B+W photo for New.

I'd be tempted to move in closer again to the shoes too and get more nice background blurring

Thank you all for your comments....much appreciated!

I had planned to take the shoe picture again but since I was happy in myself with that image, I decided to concentrate my efforts on nailing the style theme as I was not happy at all with the end results...vie just to process them this morning.

So the next theme is open....got a good idea if it works....and not a pair of shoes in sight!!

Good luck everyone and apologies if vie not added comments to your pictures this week....so many people to try and look at!!

Laura xx

Really like your shoe shot (and I like the shoes:)) - the composition and b&w work really well.

If I had to choose between your 'style' shots number 2 would have it but the first one is so funny - both great shots.

After many more shots and deliberation, I have finally decided that this should be my 'Style' Photo....

I know it is a bit soft....but one aspect I know I really need to work on is actually spending the time getting my tripod out and using it. I tend to be a quick take, hand held kind of photographer!!

As soon as I heard what the theme was this week, this sprang to mind straight away....I like the picture but I am gutted that because it is chrome, there is a dodgy reflection of me in it!!!

I had to get the tin opener working at the same time as taking the picture and I thought it looked best wearing gloves so my finger does not detract from the picture...just thought I would clear that up...I dont walk around wearing gloves all the time!!

Good luck to everyone else :)

Laura xx

Laura

really like the pic, love the reflections and the images the tin opener as captured in them.
Also like how you have captured the motion of the can.

great take on the theme.

A great idea and good motion capture.
For me though, I'd have to give it another try noting the following

I'm not sure if it would work, but a slight rotation of the tin opener may put the reflection of your camera on the corner of the opener and possibly reduce the reflection of the camera.

As for holding it down, would clear sticky tape hold it?
A bit of PP and you could possibly remove any signs of the tape.

Also, would it be possible to shoot from the other side and reduce the objects that are in the reflection?

And the wires, can they be moved out of shot?

Who would have thought togging a tin opener would raise so many issues!

Hiya Laura,

My aplogies, not sure how I missed your thread, after all you have commented on mine, so here I am now to take a peek on how you are fairing in the project.

Week 2: Wow what a very fine pair of shoes  I like how you have staged them, but agree with what has already been said about the background and how it would have benefited from being a bit more OOF or less 'cluttered' for want of a better word. Also agree with the lighting and the focus on the front bow. I find the lines on the table a bit distracting and also the verticals in the background are slight off line which draw my attention, but that is probably because I am a bit OCD about such detail.

Week 3: Had to chuckle at the first image, well thought out, but I much prefer the second image. I love the choice of colours and I think the red, b&w polkadot and stripes of the shoes make a very interesting image. Great DOF on this one. Fab photo! The third image, your final one, I like the way you have arranged the shoes, did you use all the same foot shoe or alternate left & right? I like the colours, but think it is just a tad over saturated and a bit dark (maybe a slight fill light could remedy that).

Week 4: Well done on getting week 4 done so quickly. I like the idea for the theme and the way you have captured the blurring tin rotating on the opener. Just something to watch out for when photographing reflective objects is what is actually being captured in the reflective surface. I can see much of what is going on in the background and I can make out reaching for the opener. Reflective objects can be quite useful, especially when wanting continuation, and another think I notice is the work top on the left. It would have been better to try to position the opener in a way that lines up and creates continuation through the reflection.

Overall I think you have done a sterling job with the start of your photo52 and I look forward to keeping track of your thread.

Cheers

Dawn :)

P.S. are we going to see a Week 1 - Accommodation? Now that you have done 2, 3, 4 maybe you have some time to do a quick Week 1 :)

I really like your 'open' picture, its very well done - and a great take on the theme

I love your final 'new' shot, and what a lot of lovely shoes! :)

I agree with the comments already made on 'open' - there's a lot to think about when framing your shot, but I think your interpretation is brilliant - especially capturing the motion :)

looking forward to seeing more of your 52

what a great idea for the theme, if anything the reflection could do with meeting at the same points so there is no step. I wonder if you were to use say, a 2 second self timer delay, assuming you have that facility, it may give you enough time to be totally out of the way?

Great take on the theme Laura.
Quick work too. I think the reflections can be lived with as my attention was immediately on the movement of the can. Did you consider trying it with a full size can, maybe that might have drawn even more attention to that area, dunno.
Great work though. Very effective.

Hi Laura

what a great take on this weeks theme & sooo quick !

Can't really add to whats been said already though ,I like the reflections but possibly better without them, lord knows how you'd that though:shrug:

The motion of the tin is spot on
Great photo

Yet another great take on the theme.

The motion of the tin and the reflection of the face in the tin really adds to it for me.

I'd like to have seen the end of the handle and possible clone out the cable, minor points, though.

Cheers.

Thank you once again for the helpful comments!! I think I will try to reshoot this picture taking suggestions made in to consideration. Perhaps a bigger can would draw more attention to the actual aspect I would like in focus... And also it was our last can of tuna so going to have to use a different one!!!

The problem will the opener is that to have it working you need to keep continual pressure on it so will perhaps attempt to use blu tac, use the delay timer so I can get out the way in time.... All worth a go anyway!!!

Laura xx

Interesting shot. My eye was immediately drawn to the movement of the can. I did not realise that it was your gloved finger until I read the description. Could you wedge the button with a cocktail stick or matchstick?

Okay....so HARD....I really struggled with this theme!! I've had a mega busy week to and so not been able to give the picture my full attention. I came up with a concept though of using 'hard' chocolate which had been in the fridge and capturing the point of impact from hitting it with a hammer. I then decided to put a twist on it and instead hit the chocolate with a pair of stiletto heels!! I really wanted to capture the point of impact as I said.....but no matter how much I tried, I just could not get it to work!! Here is my finally picture anyway...not really happy with it though :-(

Hi Laura

the more I look at your hard shot the more I like it ( dark chocolate...yum yum )
I'm not sure if a wider crop would have helped ,maybe get more of the shoe in & the chocolate to the left ? The color is really good ,you sure have some nice shoes:thumbs:

ps ,hope the heel was clean so the chocolate didn't go to waste:lol:

Hiya Laura,

Well done on your week 5 image, especially considering you have had a very busy week.

I love dark chocolate too and quess I would have resorted to such extremes to break into the bar of choc

The colours are great and work well together, especially like the rich dark brown of the choc which is complimented by the yellow backgroun and the red shoe.

Agree with Lynne about getting a bit more of the shoe in the shot, especially to get the length of the heal in as they can be pretty hard things too, but I think the choc is in the right position.

Excellent take on the theme ..... so go on ..... tell us how good that choc tasted :p

Look forward to seeing what you come up with for week 6.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Dawn and Lynne, thank you both so much!! Was fully prepared for loads of criticism about how stupid a picture it was, but you have both surprised me!! I never actually cropped the picture so perhaps I should have zoomed out more and then done any necessary cropping.

I was all set to eat the chocolate but then realised it was a bit unhygienic to eat after battering it with shoes I'd worn!!! So it was straight to the bin.... I had however eaten the rest of the bar so couldn't feel too sorry for myself!!

So the next theme is clutter.... Oh dear... Where to start?!

Hey Mrs E!!!

I love this pic more now i've actually really looked at it properly!

Your hard pic is better than mine... I have to conceed... I know we have not been keeping score though but I reckon we are about equal... although some of the others on here may have other ideas!

Mark

Here is my week 6 picture for clutter. I think this might be a bit of a marmite one....may not be some people's cup of tea. I like it but C&C still most welcome.

Hi Mrs E

I LOVE your clutter pic... Yet again where I spend an hour at something you do something better in 5mins... It's darn annoying! ** a good ideas person... I overanalyse and think too much!

On this pic I'd crop out the light though! I think I'd have used a tripod and ISO 100 too... so as not to get such a grainy image!

But good work!

Mark

Thank you!!!

FYI, I did use a tripod and I wanted a grainy image.....so the ISO was done on purpose!!

RE the light....you are right. Here it is now....
