Hi all,

I want to photograph a smallish room using only a kit lens (18-55), but would like to achieve a wide-angle-lens-like result.
I was thinking about two solutions:
1) shooting 4 photos in landscape orientation at 18mm (top left / bottom left / top right/ bottom right) and merging them in any photo stitching software
2) shooting 2-4 photos in portrait orientation at 18mm and stitching them in any photo stitching software

Whichever method I use I have a massive problem with verticals. The joint between wall and ceiling always come up as curve and it requires a massive amount of photoshoping. The result is still far from perfect and looks unnatural.

Do you have any other checked methods? Would shooting more photos at 30-50mm (rather than 2-4 at 18mm) help?

Thanks a lot
Pawel

The wider the focal length the worse the distortion generally. What are you merging them with?
