my girlfriend is looking to expand her portfolio,

now she is very new to modeling and does belong to a few places like pure storm....

im not very familiar to it (if any views on this site feel free to express) as i would like to know,

i was looking for some genuine photographers around the south west that could help expand her portfolio if any one could help ideal

thanks in advance

What kind of modelling? Fashion, glamour, etc?

I might be interested in a outdoor fashion shoot at some point when the weather is a little better on a TFCD/P basis.

well she is interested in a wide range to be honest. mainly fashion but does wanna do glamour but she wants to hit the gym again first to trim up after christmas lol

Got pics of your misses SW?

Hi SW, i'm on Purestorm under the alias johnb. Its quite a good site for models & I have used several models from there. I think it is one of the "safer" sites as the mods are very quick to weed out any dubious characters. If you have any questions please PM me & I would be delighted to help. Please let me have her Purestorm name & I will have a look later & get back to you with some honest comments & advice if I can

John

well thats reassuring as she has had a few replys now and myself and my gf are abit dubious of some as they do state come alone with no reason to do so etc,. which automaticaly rings bells for me

Obviously she (and anyone else) has to be careful who they chose to work with, as with meeting anyone off the net, she should always tell people where she's going, who with and what time she should be back. She should also not go alone, especially if it's a 1-1 shoot.

i have told her this plus she already said there is no chance she would go alone, with out sounding controlling boyfriend i wouldnt let her go alone to many wierd ones out there hey

Quite right too!

The "rules" that I use on a shoot are quite simple. Any model of mine is free to be accompanied by whoever she likes so long as they don't constantly interfere but I'm always open to their ideas too :)

I never, ever touch a model without their permission, even to move a strand of hair I'll tell them that the strand needs moving and ask if it's ok for me to move it. Takes only a second and is just a measure of respect. I'll ask them to move in certain ways, look up, down use whatever props are suitable to the set but I won't make them feel uncomfortable.

Actually I usually ask for their details too because as a female tog I can be at as much risk as my model........................so I'm all for a few extra bods on a shoot, helps keep everyone safe. :)

Agreeing on the most part with the above. Avoid anyone who doesn't allow chaperones. If there's more than one model on the shoot, and the chaperone is a man, then it's best that there's somewhere for them to wait etc.

Regards websites, I find Pure Storm the worst of the 'proper' sites as it's full of models and photographers that would never ever get any work in the medium. Girls, and boys, taking camera pics of themselves and calling themselves models. I'm knocking anybody on this forum who rates it but it's generally watered down with rubbish. A better one is modelmayhem.com but as there's no vetting process with any of them, they all stand to hold terrible models and creatives. For advice there's a site called whoistesting.com and that's a really good site but not one on which models can register as it's more for photographers and other creatives. Though it's well worth checking out if you are model for the info on there.

Hope that helps!

I do agree with this to a certain degree, but I think you have to take the rough with the smooth, we posted our last model request on there (purestorm) and out of 40 responses, perhaps 4/5 were what I'd call timewasters, who didn't fit the brief at all. The rest would've been suitable, but obviously there was only one space, so they couldn't all have it!

You're right though, there are quite a few that have just got mobile phone pics as their profile pics etc, which to me isn't professional.

i dont see the point of have pics done off your phone perhaps a dating agency yeah but not if your trying to presue a career its look a bit of a joke hey

Agree with all of the above however in any site there will be those 5 minute wonders who sign up & never come back.

I have only ever worked with experienced models who you know will turn up- I would not like to be let down at the last minute & all of these have come off Purestorm.

For new models it is a chicken & egg situation- you need good pics but people need to know you are there to get good pics so you initially use lower quality images.

I'm in Dorset and usually shoot near Bridport. Fairly new to studio work but if you fancy it we could always go halves on the studio and both get some shots?
