At a vast cost to labs soft works are showing off their iPad version of the roes system. As usual an annual fee and a charge per order.

Hi John

That's why I was asking - but the silence would make it look like its a solution looking for a problem! ;-)

Looks like people who have iPads use them to look at photos - and to do things with them online - but not print.....

It's not a system I will be investing in. I agree. The iPads are good for viewing and possibly generating manual sales but I would not use them to order professional prints from. I think soft works haven wasted a lot of time and money going down this route. I'll wait to be proved wrong but I suspect it will be a long wait. I have a couple of portfolio apps on my iPad but I have yet to explore them!

Best wishes

John - from what I heard a couple of their programmers did it for their own personal "fun" and then they've decided to roll it out. I think that the iPad user fall into two camps - serious photographers who won't use it to order, as they use the iPad as a sales or display tool. General users have two sub sections - those who use in addition to a PC - then they'll probably use the PC to order with (as they might want to tweek the files) or the new category - those who use the iPad for everything....
With the general shrinking of the printed photo market I'm unsure is there's enough people out there who want prints who only use iPads.... and its annual cost means you'd need an additional 10 orders a day just to break even....
BTW I gave you a call at your work - only to be told you're having a bit of a break....!

Hi David

I had a heart valve repaired in an 8 hour op in the middle of December and have 3 months recovery leave. That's not to say I'm not keeping an eye on what is going on!! I have full access to all the systems from home and part of my rehab is walking, so I drop in for a cup of tea and they drop me back home. I have have whatever setbacks you can have including an emergency air ambulance flight, now that was exciting!!

I'm available to chat on skype if you have time.

Best wishes

John
