I am selling more and more photos and at present I just pop down to boots and get them printed.

It's now getting to the point where I will consider doing them at home. Its no good using online as I print them of in small batches or maybe even 1 at a time so postage costs will add up.

Wanted to get ideas of how much it will cost to print per print or how many prints I am likely to get before having to change cartridges.

After something that will not give up on ink after 20-30 prints!

Probably be printing 7x5 and possibly A5 prints.

Any recommendations that will not break the bank?

So many out there from HP/Canon etc I dont know where to sart.

I can't comment on ink printers as I don't use them, but a reasonable dye sub printer will print a 7x5 in around 15 seconds and has a fixed cost of around 20p, whatever the content.

Most are roll fed with 200+ on a roll, and -depending upon price - most dye subs will print 6x4 and 9x6 as well.

Cost.. from around £500 to £1,000.

Market leaders are Mitsubishi, but other good brands include DNP, HiTi, Citizen and Fuji.

Dealers to look for are Photomart, System Insight and Richard Frankfurt

What Jeremy did not add is that dye subs use a ribbon and the colour is transferred by heat so there are no ink pathways to clog ever. I am a DNP user, Jeremy a Mitsubishi - difference negligible as they along with the Fuji, HiTi etc. are industrial specced units capable of printing 10s of thousands of images before service or repair is needed.

Thanks guys - I used my HP 'photosmart' today and it was bloody terrible compared to the instant ones from Kodak!

Will need some saving for the above, but seems worth it as noticed the ones in boots use the rolls.
