Edit My Images

Hi Guys,

Currently using Fotostation Pro as my workflow but I also have a copy of PhotoMechanic and understand that is far better to use once set up correctly.

Fotostation is a pain for selecting and tagging photo's but I do have a decent workflow set up using the actions on the right hand side of the screen - is it possible to set up PM to do similar things?

At the minute I basically select my photos (slower than i'd like) and then click 'acquired images' which copies it to an acquired folder. Next edit those copied files (crop / sometimes levels) and then click 'ready images' - this copies them to another folder and asks me to batch rename them and adds all of the company's metadata. I then add in all of the captions for each file (another time when FS seems a bit slow- esp. for sports) Next they are copied again to a resized folder as they are downsized for FTP'ing. Lastly I click FTP and they are sent over FTP to the desk.

So.. I was wondering if it possible to have the same workflow in PM? It works well but i'd like to add the speed of ingesting/viewing/tagging/ability to just take locked files of photomechanic to the workflow options of Fotostation.

Cheers

Adam

In Photo Mechanic, the thumbnails display almost instantly - from there to select and image you just hit the '1' key, then you can display all 'Winner' images. From there, it can be set up to automatically open in your favourite image editor, then you can use Photo Mechanic's FTP function to ftp.

Who do you work for?

What he said...

Also, If you want to use Photoshop, depending on the version you can use Adobe Bridge (I use CS4) to show only the "1" photos in Bridge for you to do more detailed work on (ie. Levels/Curves/Sharpening)

On the left hand side of Bridge (on a mac at least) it's under the file folders box and gives you options to filter files by camera body, lens, focal length etc etc. Somewhere in there will be the option for "winner" which is the PM/PS title for your "1" photos.

Found it most helpful at sports where you're editing from say 100 photos per ingest...down to 5/10.
