Adobe bridge

Well, Picasa and Windows Photo Gallery (both free) would do what the OP describes...

Anthony.

...assuming the OP has Lightroom already of course!

Anthony

No assumptions. Lightroom will do what the op wants after its trial ends.

You can:-
  • import new photos
  • add metadata
  • organize them
  • search for specific photos
  • do rough edits using Quick Develop
  • apply Develop presets
  • create books slideshows and web galleries
  • email and publish photos on social media
  • export and print your edited photos

Did not realise you can keep using all modes apart from "develop" for free! I mainly just use the "library" mode for importing, organising, rating and exporting and hardly ever use the "develop" module.

The earlier versions of LR are free - they contain the main elements of the latest version

Not many people do seem to realise. And with clever use of presets you can access most of the develop tools that are not in the basic panel

I didn't know that, where can you get them as a quick look in the adobe site I couldn't see any free full old versions.

It is or was somewhere on the Adobe site - something like version 3

Ok thanks all for your comments so in light room I will be able to add tags that i could search for later in there folder and possible online if uploaded into a gallery ?
Would I have to build a dedicated web page to search for photos once in there gallery, sorry for all the question new to this

Flickr may do what you need. Lightroom has a Flickr upload tool built in.

Try Digikam. You can add keywords, perform face recognition, create complex searches and save them, use geographic information and even search for like images based on a sketch. And it's free and open source.

Exiftool good to script and automate this process.

I'm not clear what benefits this would give the OP over the tools mentioned such as Lightroom / Picasa / Digikam ?
Super light weight, able to script and automate without using a UI, fast.. It is just yet another tool in the toolbox, some like it, some don't.
