Hi,

I find myself with a whole day to spare in the Peterborough area this coming Saturday. I'll have all my kit with me so want to spend as much time taking photos as possible. I enjoy landscapes, buildings and events. I don't know the area so can anyone who does suggest any good locations that I should visit ? Within 30 miles of Peterborough preferably.

Thanks

Ray

Well, the obvious answer is Cambridge but that may be a little too far for you.

Other than that there is the cathedral in Peterborough itself but from memory not really much other than that in the centre. The rest of the city is pretty much a new town.

Further out the fens are a unique landscape all of their own and there is the Nene Valley Railway nearby but don't know if they will be steaming at this time of year.<looks at website> oh yes, its a Driver Experience day using BR 5MT 4-6-0 - 73050 "City of Peterborough" - don't know if the public are admitted but might get some shots from a road bridge or two.

Further north there is Stamford, which is an attractive town – several period films have been filmed there. The George does a good lunch. And Spalding is not too far away which is in the bulb-growing region but I have no idea if there is anything in flower at the moment.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for your thoughts. I don't think I'll stay in Peterborough itself but will check out the Nene Valley railway and I'll have a look at my NT map tonight. I'll be in Spalding the day before so I can check out the bulb fields then but I think it may be a bit early for the tulips.

Cheers

Ray
