Hi Guys!

So, for my first (of many, no doubt!) questions on here, I would basically like to get some recommendations as to which website is best for hosting photos. I'm looking for something free and easy to use, but am not adverse to paying for extra storage etc if I find the site suits my needs.

I'm very new to photography in general, so initially I would just like somewhere to host some photos i'm taking and editing with my iPhone and also some shots i'm taking with my Nikon point-and-shoot camera. It would be useful though if the site can then handle my eventual upgrade into DSLR territory and the shots i'll be taking with it.

Sorry if I have missed a thread on this elsewhere on this site...the site is MASSIVE though, and I did look for a while, but couldn't find anything!:D

Thanks in advance guys,

Chris.

I'm new also and have found Flickr good. There are loads of groups with different interests and people there seem friendly.

If you have a BT Broadband account you also get a free Flickr Pro account

Well thanks for the replies all!

I decided to go with photobucket initially. I was put off getting flickr due to you having to sign up for a yahoo mail account also. I've only recently got a new hotmail address, so I didn't want to open another new e-mail account.

I do like the look of the pro accounts you can get with both flickr and photobucket though, so i'm sure i'll be happy with either when the time comes to upgrade.

Just need to get the iPhone linked up to the new computer and i'll be able to start uploading pics soon!

Thanks again all!

Ooooh.

How?

Unless the terms have changed recently you just sign up to Flickr with your main BT email address.
If you already have a free Flickr account you can try changing your login email to the BT email address.

I'm so pleased I happened upon this thread. I knew there had to be a reason I kept my BT email all these years :D

I have'nt tried this one yet but, deviantart.com looks nice, its free and reading the blurb uploads are unlimited???

Shame i can't remember my BT email address. damnnn

I would go with Flickr. Photobucket is fine, but has a nasty habit of losing a lot of picture quality when hosting.

Does anyone struggle with upload speeds to Flickr? I was attracted to the idea of unlimited uploads and saw the Pro account as a cheap way of remote backing-up all my RAW files. I have Be broadband, with the 2 mbps upload speed option, but I still only ever seem to get 18 - 20 Kb/s speed, at which levels it becomes impractical :(

it's got to be Flickr all the way... the media use it a lot to search for images for editorial, so there's always the outside chance you could earn a few £££!

it works best if you take the effort when uploading your photos... name all the images, tag them, etc.
