Hello I am just wondering if anyone uses this and your thoughts / alternatives ?

I am not a great love of post processing but can certainly see how it can help. I have Photoshop CC and was looking for a plugin to add fairly easy effects with minimal hassle at a sensible cost.

I am currently having a free trial of the PE9 just wondered if anyone uses it a lot any thoughts or alternatives.

Sorry should have been Perfect Effect 9

For the benefit of others reading this thread Perfect Effects 9 is free at the moment. I downloaded from http://www.on1.com/products/effects9free/

It's really useful when looking at a photo and thinking that it needs 'something'. You can try a few of the preset effects to see how your photo changes and you can stack them and create your own 'look' if necessary. I bought ver 8 but find I don't use it often certainly not every time I edit a picture as I'm trying to get the photo right in camera and keep PP to a minimum.

Take a look at the Youtube videos https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Perfect+Effect+9+ there's good information in there.

thanks for this, downloaded it and its real fun to mess with your photos and try the effects.

I've been using Perfect Effects Suite 8 for a while and some here use 9. It's a really useful tool to have in your kit, and some things work extremely well, but there's a danger of just taking your images OTT by adding a bit more of all your favourite filters.

I installed Photo Effects 8 a while ago and have since upgraded to Perfect Photo Suite 9.

Although the suite is a stand alone app I usually access it as plug-ins via Photoshop CS6. It has an extensive set of filters and presets which are all customisable but it has no RAW converters.

I basically agree with Toni about the dangers of over cooking your images but it just depends on the individual image and what you want to achieve.

You may already know but there's an update to 9.5 either just released or on it's way. They send plenty of reminders so this should be 'you do already know'.

I think we're all guilty of over cooking images, it's part of the learning process.

....Indeed, PPS version 9.5 has been available for a few weeks. They do somewhat bombard you with emails.

Thank you for the comments, while I am running the trial I am sure ill be one of those over doing it lol, but ive probably been more guilty of under doing it in the past. So will have to strike the right balance. But good fun to experiment.

You can only learn by making mistakes. Best get them over quickly.

I downloaded both Perfect Effects 9 and Perfect Browser 9 as a result of the notifications on this Website of the free offers. I've since played around with both programs and like the software interface and integration into, in my case, PSE11. I used my Lenovo Desktop at first and kept getting program lock ups and crashes. The Lenovo has quad core AMD A10 processors, 8 GB RAM and meets the published minimum specs for the programs. I then loaded the programs onto my Laptop, which has Intel i3 processors, 8 GB RAM and also meets the spec requirements. The Laptop also experienced program lock ups and crashes. Both PCs seemed to be particulary prone to crashing whilst navigating and accessing pictures on a Network Hard Drive. Following a trawl of the Net, others have experienced locking and freezing issues as well, including those who had paid out for the full Photo Suite. By default, both programs are set to 80% usage for the System and VRAM. By reducing these figures for 70% for System Resources and VRAM Resources and by using a local USB 3.0 hard drive, the crashes and lock ups seem to have stopped, for a likely limited reduction in performance. Other hardware specifications might require a differing usage reduction percentage.
So, taking into account that the software was free, and, by working around the likely Network induced crashes, this is actually useful software that's fun to play around with. However, I would not yet pay out for the full versdion of Perfect Photo Suite until the software is more developed and stable.
