Hi, I currently use iPhoto on my Mac to do basic photo editing:- cropping and adjusting the colour.
I'm after something a little more, not expensive, something that will allow me to add signature on pictures and a little more editing.

Any ideas?

What would you define as expensive? I personally cannot get away from using Lightroom. Try a 30 day trial from Adobe's site. See what you think. From memory, its around £100 for a copy.

won't go far wrong with Photoshop Elements.. i think V10 is the latest.. should be able to find it for £70 ish.. or get V9 for cheap as chips.

With elements you'll be able to find loads of tutorials to do what you need and it also offers guided edits with preset actions such Lomo, posterize, reflections etc..

you can install and run it on 2 separate machines as well under the licence, so i have it at work and at home

Yep, Lightroom 4 would be a nice simple way forward.

Could also go for Aperture as you are a Mac users. The benefit there is that it will read your iPhoto library without having to import everything again. Cheaper than LR as well, have a look in the App Store, £55 from memory.

Has anyone got any experiences with aperture for Mac?

what is the difference between Lightroom, Photoshop Elements and things like Photoshop CS5??

I was looking at Lightroom today, but didn't know what the difference is compare to CS5

My advice would be to learn to do all your fundamental picture and colour editing with the canon eos utility software as thoroughly as you can. Then, if there is anything else you want to do, try to justify the cost of anything Adobe, or find a free editor like Gimp etc, and use that for whatever it is the eos utility can't do for you.

Screw Adobe, I won't use it on principle, it's like a poxy religion with loads of essential bibles, all making money for the expert that understands the bloody thing, horribly overcomplicated and unintuitive on purpose.

And the cost of it all..... I'm waiting for the Chinese to launch there version:lol:

Lightroom offers the basic editing/cataloguing with limited local ajustment, photoshop offers the same basic editing options (with a different interface) but also offers a lot more features, proper selections for local ajustment, you can cut/paste, it has layers.
Photoshop offers a lot more but costs more, Lightroom is better suited to processing large numbers of images but with more basic ajustments.
Elements is a "slimmed" down version of photoshop, most of the features are there but some are missing or more limited.
