Can someone clarify for me this issue. I used Bobs Books for a recent collection of photos and they did a lovely job. So I planned another one and whilst doing it the software wanted to update. During the process a new T&C came up which included this

4.6
Authorized cewe-photo provider and its suppliers claim no ownership of your personal photos. You hereby grant us a non-exclusive, royalty free, fully-paid perpetual licence to use, download, upload, copy, print, display, reproduce, post, transmit and distribute these photos in the normal course of our business.

I suppose the coverall is the line about "normal course of our business" however I don't really like the granting of a royalty free perpetual licence concerning photographs I may choose to sell at a later stage.

Now, I tried speaking to customer services who wanted to point me at the T&C page where I could not find these ones repeated, (however I took a picture of them when installing the software so I know for sure what they said). Customer services then suggested I email in my questions. So I've tried a couple of emails and failed to get a reply. So I thought I'd ask in here. I'm not used to making photo books and have only tried two companies so far. Of the two I'd say Bobs Books has a very nice range of choice in size and paper type and the result was stonking. It's just this follow up that is somewhat lacklustre.

Could someone tell me whether thesei are common and normal T&C for this kind of company and process? (And if so why? And why is it ok to agree? )

Thanks

I imagine that they're just thereby reserving the right to incorporate service-user photos in any possible promotional material, and not to otherwise use it for commercial gain. But they should be able to explain this and it's worth pursuing your dialogue with them.

And I thought I'd posted a reply to this - my thanks for yours.
As you suggested I tried the human route and spoke to someone by phone (moral - email is not the quick fix it once was). Turns out this term is to allow them to print and reprint a book, not to allow them to use your stuff for advertising. From what I've read most of these companies tend to keep pictures for about 12 weeks in case you order repeats or else put a book up for general sale. I was informed that the company would approach you separately if they wanted to use work for advertising etc. It's just a bit strange that this T&C was not more obviously repeated on the website which already has about 9 different sets of T&C ( http://www.bobbooks.co.uk/terms-conditions ).

Anyway my thanks for your comment.
