There have been various posts about the way the scroats scammers try their luck.

I had a WhatsApp msg with a simple "Hello" the name with the number was Stephanie.

I wonder how many folk 'she' catches because they respond  I would to hope none......but likely some will reply and get suck(ered) down the black hole :(

I had a call from "Virgin Media technical team" this morning. He had a heavy Indian accent and didn't sound too professional at all. I was really annoyed as he woke me up. Apparently there was a fault on my internet, "Oh, I don't have internet" was my reply. I do wish something could be done about scammers. They're an annoyance to me but the fact that they exist must mean that some people fall for the cons. India is supposed to be a sort of friendly state and I've no doubt that these scammers can be traced so why not politely ask India do something about them?

Because it’s part of their economy?

I had the same the other day, not sure if the name was the same as I deleted it straight away as an obvious scammer. Hopefully you blocked the number as well?

I’ve also had a couple of calls from an 0203 number recently, one last week claiming to be a financial adviser, the other yesterday allegedly a solar panel firm. Both Indian sounding with very posh sounding British names….Rupert and Giles. :ROFLMAO: My phone now comes up with “possible scammer” as the caller ID with any 0203 numbers.

IIRC as it was WhatsApp I blocked it there.

I also see spam warnings on spurious mobile numbers calling me. But also see genuine business names showing as the caller ID such builders, solicitors & hairdressers, all from Leeds and another northern area ...oh and NI and Eire. All of them get blocked and reported if not a genuine business i.e. one I have looked up and confirmed as such.

My approach is if they cannot leave a message they get blocked.......though I tend to leave a grace period just in case it is from someone who is known to me but not on 'that' number e.g. they have answerphone hesitancy.

PS we have CLI on the landline with an answerphone and treat unknown callers in the same way.

My phone only really gets used for family use, so if a number rings that I don't recognise, I ignore it, with the mantra that if it's important, they'll leave a message. They rarely do, if ever.

I then Goggle the number and almost everytime, it comes up as a scam.

Same with E-mails really, if there's one in there from a non contact, usually offering me money, a holiday and suchlike, it goes straight in the bin, if my spam filter doesn't catch it first.

There are some dangerous folk out there, they don't care about you or your feelings, only your money. Be careful.

Me too.

I find https://who-called.co.uk/ is great for checking numbers to see if they are scam calls....

Had a spate of calls before Xmas from numbers beginning with 0330 or 0331 all claiming to be 02 and saying they could offer me an excellent deal on a new contract, but when I asked them about my current contract they didn't have a clue what contract I was currently on...... Indian call centre scammers.

I'm getting those at the moment as well. After 2 in one day the third one asked me for an email address for verification purposes so I gave fredbloggs @ fraud.gov.... there was a pause and then the line went dead for some reason

I’ve had similar and used Pcplod@ PoliceScotland.com also usually brings the dialling tone.
