Someone was telling me the other night that, in Saudi, fuel is 10p a litre. Apparently there was outrage when it went up to 11p recently. Don't know if Wail (lives in Saudi) will see this and be able to confirm.
 
Thats how much it should be anyway. In Egypt its 2 egyptian pounds per litre thats 20p approx.

Hmm - my car does 23mpg when I am careful, and its only an old MPV...
Means we walk to the supermarket unless feeling flush !
 
Just changed my car to a new one that gets me 65MPG on a run and 50 around town,

Its a real shame, I hate having to go Eco, as when I was younger it was so much easier, TVR 12MPG, Petrol at 70p a Gallon!

And living in the US for 10 years from the Mid 90s with Petrol at 70c a Gallon, makes it heartbreaking to drive in this country in a poxy Eco diesel just so I can actually affords to drive anywhere!

I would be outranged if the price went up, even by 1p! :cuckoo:

Keep in mind, Saudi is country who's economy is 98% based on oil and oil extracts. So, as price of oil goes up, GDP increases significantly too.

With that in mind, once oil started to go past the $40 mark, back around 2005, petrol was reduced from 10p a litre to the current 6p a litre; and yes, I think it's way too high.

A colleague of mine, a UK national working in Saudi, drives this American monster SUV with a 6.9 litre engine that, I think, produces something in the region of 500 bhp :eek:. His argument is that he'd never be able to afford to run that kind of a monster in the UK, which I have to say is very rational. Plus, the driving in Saudi begs for such monsters to be the norm.

There are many advantages to living in Saudi.

- Sun 24/7
- Warm climate 365 days a year
- No women driving :p (had to put that in)
- Serious crackdown on any public protest :thumbs:
- Very low cost of living :thumbs::thumbs:
- You can talk your way out of any sticky situation, with good attitude and manners
- Glamour & Nude is illegal, but attempting to do it is all the more exciting :naughty:


I could go on and on and on .. but I'm biased I guess.

Mr. Lemon; you've really got to pay it a visit. It's a harsh culture, but has a lot going for it.

I forgot to mention, no VAT, no income tax, no property tax, no council tax, no inheritance tax .... simply no tax!

Sometime I wish they'd ban the men from driving. I would love to be chauffeur-driven to all my destinations.
